Born: White Plains, NY
Residence: Las Vegas, NV Favorite Poker Game: Texas Hold'em Nickname: Lady Maverick Website: www.vanessarousso.com Highlights:
French-American beauty Vanessa Rousso doesn't need luck to win at poker. She's got Game Theory, an interest she discovered while studying economics at Duke University. After finishing her four-year undergraduate degree in only 2 ½ years, setting a record at Duke, she lost no time in making a name for herself on the pro poker circuit. And what a name she's made. Vanessa earned more money playing poker in 2007 than any other pro female on the U.S. poker circuit. To date, the 27-year-old has earned more than $3.4 million in live and online tournament play, taking first runner-up in NBC's 2009 National Heads-Up Poker Championship. And most of that was accomplished during law school at the University of Miami. It was after her first year of law school in 2005 that Vanessa entered a WSOP-Circuit Event in New Orleans, finishing seventh. That same summer, she took 45th place in the ladies event of the World Series of Poker. After winning $17,550 in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold' em Event at Atlantic City's WSOP-Circuit in early 2006, Vanessa set her sights on the $25,000 World Poker Tour Championships. With the financial backing of friends, she took seventh place. Vanessa walked away from the Bellagio with $263,625 in winnings and a sponsorship deal. Vanessa won her first major event in September 2006, cashing the $5,000 No-Limit Hold 'em Event at the Borgata Poker Open for $285,540. Over the next two years, Vanessa added several WPT, WSOP and WSOP-Circuit cashes to her list of wins. Vanessa has won huge sums online and live. Her biggest online win came when she finished second in the online WCOOP Main Event, winning over $700,000. Her biggest live tournament victory came in the EPT High Roller Championship at Monte Carlo, where she finished in First place for $962,958. Vanessa has appeared several times on NBC's "Poker After Dark" and travelled to Latin American and European Poker Tours, where she finished 10th at the 2008 LAPT-Punta del Este and 39th at the 2008 EPT London. Vanessa also finished seventh at the 2009 Southern Poker Championship in Biloxi. Vanessa also just missed out on the NAPT Mohegan Sun final table, coming in tenth for $47,000. Vanessa, who holds dual citizenship in France and the U.S., speaks English, French and Spanish. Vanessa now lives in Las Vegas with her fiancé, Chad Brown, also a professional poker player. $9.99*/yr

Until she appeared in a paid advertisement that ran in the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, Vanessa Rousso, Professional Poker Player, had never been photographed by anyone other than friends.
During one particularly hectic week in March that included playing in two poker tournaments and hosting the Latin American Poker Tour, the 26-year-old added video to her list of accomplishments. Vanessa joined IndyCar® Series Star Danica Patrick and WWE Wrestler Candice Michelle, in Las Vegas to film a commercial for Go Daddy. "Acting is tough!" she remarked afterwards, marveling at how her fellow Go Daddy Girls® seemed so at ease in front of the camera. When they finished shooting the commercial, all three attended the Draw Party for the 2009 NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship at Caesars Palace. Vanessa entered the Casino's opulent night club wearing the signature black leather Go Daddy jacket for the first time. This is where she and the 63 other players invited to the tournament learned who they'd be playing in the first round of single-elimination matches. Over the next three days, Vanessa worked her way past opponents with a combined $40 million in career tournament earnings. "It was definitely a tough group of guys," she said later. "You have three of the toughest players in the world: Ivey, Doyle, and Daniel. Elky has won WPT and EPT titles. Paul Wasicka finished as the runner up in the 2006 WSOP Main Event." Vanessa beat them all, losing the last round 2-0 to championship favorite Huck Seed. "She's a real gentle woman, a good-hearted player," Seed remarked after the match, "she brought my level up." Vanessa had nice things to say about Seed as well. "There's a reason why Huck has the best heads-up record in the tournament. He's a tough opponent," she said, leaving Caesars Palace with a 2nd-place finish and $250,000 in cash. "His win was well-deserved. " When asked whether she prefers live poker play over online tournaments, Vanessa is torn. "Ironically enough, over the last three years I have over two million in tournament earnings and it's almost 50/50 between online success and live," Rousso said. I love to play online, especially the deep stack WCOOP events where you really let skill prevail." |
