Our Best Ads from the Big Game
Super Bowl® Commercials
Go Daddy Super Bowl commercials are becoming a tradition in and of themselves, with 2013 marking the ninth consecutive time that the world's leading domain name registrar has reached out to millions by advertising during the big game. It all started back in 2005, when a then-unknown company decided to ignore the critics and gamble a small fortune on a pair of Super Bowl ads. The ad itself was a fun, clever poke at the previous year's "wardrobe malfunction" and was scheduled to appear twice during the game.
But after the commercial initially aired, it created such a buzz that the network decided not to run it a second time. What followed was an avalanche of discussion that continued for days on sports radio, TV talk shows and 24-hour cable news networks. Anchors and pundits played the commercial over and over again, debating the ad itself and the network's reaction to it, all of which resulted in an incredible amount of free publicity that turned Go Daddy into a household name virtually overnight. The massive success of the first Go Daddy Super Bowl commercial guaranteed their return to the big game and set the tone for future ads.
Over the following years, Go Daddy Super Bowl videos helped to pioneer a new style of Internet-era advertising often referred to as "push-to-web." These commercials were essentially set up to introduce a story or scenario to the viewer, which was then finished online. Since the Internet-Only segments of the commercial were out of the network's jurisdiction, it allowed Go Daddy to avoid network censors and get more creative with their ads.
This style of advertising became even more effective a few years later when Go Daddy added more star power to their commercials by recruiting Danica Patrick, the most popular, well-known female driver in professional racing, as a celebrity spokesperson. Since she teamed up with Go Daddy, Danica has appeared in every Super Bowl, sometimes in multiple ads, earning her the honor of appearing in more Super Bowl ads than any other celebrity in history (as of 2013, she had appeared in 12 ads).
For the 2013 Super Bowl, the company did something it hadn't done since its first commercial in 2005 — it hired an outside advertising agency to create the Go Daddy Super Bowl video for the big game. And they also spotlighted another world-famous beauty, supermodel Bar Refaeli, alongside Danica in an ad titled "Perfect Match."
While no one can predict what Go Daddy has in store for future Super Bowl commercials, it seems like a safe bet that they will continue to dream up new ways to capture the attention of millions of football fans and help millions of people create their own unique corner of the Web.
